We Will Always Love You, Dolly

I heard that Dolly Parton had passed away on August 25, so I began August 26 here in Japan with the devastating news.

I knew she couldn’t live forever. But for some reason, I think many of us believed she would be with us forever and ever.

I don’t really know why I feel so deeply sad about her passing. I never met her. She was a celebrity, someone I only knew through her music, movies, interviews, and everything she shared with the world.

But I am truly devastated that she is gone. I don’t know why, but simply thinking about her makes me cry.

Whenever I go back to the States for a visit, I always visit Nashville and Sevierville, Tennessee. Sevierville is Dolly’s hometown and the heart of her East Tennessee roots.

And, of course, I love going to Dollywood whenever I’m in the area. Some of my friends in Sevierville have worked there, so they sometimes hook me up with tickets! I love the atmosphere, the music, and the warmth of the place. And yes, no visit is complete without the famous cinnamon bread.

Dolly will always be an American icon and a legend. We will always love her, and somehow, I think she will always love us, too.

We will remember not only the music, movies, and laughter she gave us, but also her kindness and all the good she did for so many people.

Her legacy will live on. But right now, I am simply heartbroken that she is gone.

Dollyへ、たくさんの愛を込めて

8月25日に、Dolly Partonが亡くなったことを知りました。

日本では8月26日の朝を、そのあまりにも悲しいニュースとともに迎えることになりました。

もちろん、Dollyが永遠に生き続けるわけではないことくらい、分かっていたはずなんですが、Dollyだけは、これからもずっと、いつまでも私たちと一緒にいてくれるような気がしていました。

きっと、そう思っていたのは私だけではないと思います。

どうしてこんなに悲しいのか、自分でもうまく説明できません。

実際に会ったことがある人でもないです。

私が知っているDollyは、音楽や映画、インタビュー、そして彼女が私たちに見せてくれた、たくさんの姿の中にいるDollyです。

それなのに、もうDollyがいないということが、本当に悲しくてたまりません。

彼女が亡くなったという事実を考えるだけで、今も涙が出てきます。

アメリカに帰ると、いつもNashville とSeviervilleに行きます。

SeviervilleはDollyの故郷で、彼女のEast Tennesseeでのルーツがある場所です。

そしてもちろん、Seviervilleに行ったらDollywoodにも行きます。

Seviervilleに住んでいる友人の中にはDollywoodで働いていた人もいて、ときどきチケットを手配してくれるので、ありがたくお言葉に甘えています。（笑）

Dollywoodの雰囲気も、音楽も、あの場所に流れている温かさも大好きです。

そしてもちろん、あの有名なシナモンブレッドを食べずに帰ることはできません。

Dollyは、これからもずっと、アメリカを代表するアイコンであり、伝説であり続けると思います。

私たちは、これからもずっとDollyのことを忘れないでしょう。

Dollyもきっと、これからもずっと私たちのことを想ってくれているような気がします。

彼女が届けてくれた音楽や映画、たくさんの笑い。

そして、彼女の優しさや、多くの人のためにしてきた数えきれないほどのこと。

そのすべてを、私たちが忘れることはありません。

Dollyが残してくれたものは、これからもずっと生き続けると思います。

でも今は、そんなきれいな言葉では、まだ気持ちを整理できません。

今はただ、Dollyがいなくなってしまったことが、本当に悲しくてたまりません。
